Tucker Carlson on the Appeal of the Ron Paul Movement

Journalist and MSNBC commentator Tucker Carlson emceed Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic. In a candid interview Carlson talks about appeal of the Ron Paul Movement.

Carlson touches on the diversity of movement and how it is due to Paul's own acceptance of different views and people who disagree with him. Carlson goes on to say the he doesn't think that true libertarianism will ever be accepted by most people. Carlson states this is because most people while liking the idea that they can do what they want, still want to control others. So in effect they only accept half of libertarianism.

I think there is a lot of truth in that statement unfortunately, it probably took me 4 or 5 years to move from being a Reagan type conservative to a full blown libertarian. But I have always had an active interest in politics, most people don't. So they will not take the time to read and research libertarianism and develop an understanding and appreciation of the fact that to be free you MUST let others be free also.

I particularly relate to Carlson's statement that libertarians are disaffected Republicans. Republicans who really believe in small government and come to realize that Republican Party really doesn't.

Carlson's truest statement is that the reason Republican Party leaders don't like Ron Paul, is because Paul calls them out for being the phonies that they are. See The Childish Actions of the Republican Party for an example of one kind of Republican phoniness.
