Sell a Flag - Get 90 Days in Jail

A new law in the state of Minnesota which is effective January 1 2008, requires all US flags sold in the state to be of American manufacture. Violations of the law, will be punished by a $1,000 fine or 90 days in jail.

I am glad I live in a state that protects me from foreign made flags and the criminals that would sell them.

I am glad the state is protecting me from:

The terrible effects on society from foreign made flags?

The dangers of saving money on my flag purchases and having more money to spend on other things?

The danger of making a poor choice in my flag buying decision. I mean if the government didn't make the choice for me, who would? Would I have the vast knowledge, training, experience and the concern of the government?

I just know if the government and our fearless elected leaders made this decision it MUST be in our best interest. After all the politicians really care about you and me. That is what they always tell me.

Yeah right! I hope someone violates this law and takes it to court.

The law is supported by the Flag Manufacturers' Association of America (shocking I know), which has complained about a flood of foreign-made U.S. flags, valued at $5.3 million in 2006. Gee I wonder if they lined the pockets of some of our wonderful legislators?
